Education

GPAM_StockTeachingEach member of the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (GPAM) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is an educator at heart.

Faculty members teach fellows, residents and medical students as well as peers and other learners. We teach clinically in the newborn nursery, outpatient clinic and inpatient services. We also teach, mentor and role model through research and quality improvement projects.

Many of our faculty members are graduates of the UNC School of Medicine Teaching Scholars program.

Members of our division hold leadership positions in education at the UNC School of Medicine, including:

  • Julie Byerley, MD-- Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Pediatrics. Co-Director of the UNC School of Medicine Academy of Educators.
  • Kenya McNeal-Trice, MD--Director of Medical Student Education in Pediatrics, Advisor in the College, Director of the Capstone Course and Faculty Advisor to the Student National Medical Association.

The Department of Pediatrics' work in the theories and processes of education is cutting edge and is presented at the national level. For more information on our education programs please see the department's education page.
