Before making an appointment, you must provide a written referral from a health care provider (e.g., physician, psychologist, behavioral therapist, speech pathologist, occupational or physical therapist) or school professional (e.g., teacher, guidance counselor, psychologist, special education teacher or principal). Please fax the referral to (919) 966-3025, Attn: Development and Behavior.
- Please note, you will need to have a UNC medical record number before making an appointment. If you do not have one, you may obtain a UNC medical record number by calling (919) 966-1401 to get a UNC medical record number.
- Once in receipt of a UNC medical record number, please call (919) 843-2325 and leave a message. We will need both the child's medical record number and two contact numbers, including the area code. (If you have private caller block, it will take longer for the Division to return your call.)
- Please contact the Financial Counselor at (919) 843-1751 for insurance concerns and questions. (Consultations in the Development and Behavioral Clinic are considered outpatients visit and, in most cases, considered Mental Health.)
Access to behavioral and mental health care for children and adolescents is currently a concern for U.S. health policy makers. The Division of Pediatric Development and Behavior is available for informal consultations with North Carolina pediatric and family medical providers regarding questions in the areas of behavioral, emotional, and developmental health. These consultations may be scheduled through the Carolina Consultation Center line at (800) 966-4005 or by sending an e-mail request to Heather Banning.
