Applying for Residency

Applicants to our program must be registered through the National Residency Match Program(NRMP) and are required to use the Electronic Residency Application Service(ERAS).

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Three letters of recommendation to include:
    • Pediatric departmental letter
    • Internal Medicine departmental letter
    • Letter from one faculty member who has had direct clinical contact with you
  • USMLE transcript
  • MSPE Medical school transcript
  • Personal statement
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • The deadline for application is November 1

 

In addition to the above, applicants should meet the following criteria:

Graduation from medical school no more than 2 years ago

Clinical experience (not observership) in the USA

If not a citizen of the USA, UNC Hospitals only supports the J-1 visa

 

VISITING MEDICAL STUDENTS:

Fourth year medical students are welcome to contact the University of North Carolina School of Medicine to arrange a visiting student elective.  Please contact Kelly Lear for additional questions at klear@med.unc.edu.

Based on availability, students may choose any pediatric or medicine rotation.  There are four rotations that cross both departments and that may be of particular interest to students applying to med/peds:

PEDS 412/MEDI 412   Endocrinology

PEDS 413/MEDI 413   Combined internal medicine /pediatric nephrology elective

PEDS 417     The science and clinical management of common hemglobinpathies

PEDS 430     Med/Peds Hospitalis Elective
