A gift to help improve a child's
health and well being is priceless. It's a gift that
keeps giving. Whether you offer your support through
donating time or money, your contribution matters a
great deal to the children treated at the
North Carolina Children’s Hospital. Financial
gifts will benefit both the UNC Department of Pediatics
and the North Carolina Children's Hospital.

Why Financial Gifts Are Needed
The North Carolina Children’s Hospital is committed to
providing quality care for all children, regardless of
their families' ability to afford the services. Some
might wonder why a public institution like the North
Carolina Children’s Hospital would need private funding.
In fact, though the North Carolina Legislature provides
generous state funding toward the care provided at the
Children’s Hospital, there is a tremendous gap that must
be filled. That gap results from a variety of needs–from
the uninsured, the underinsured, the limitations of what
Medicaid covers, and the list goes on. At the North
Carolina Children's Hospital, about half of our patients
have little or no health insurance.
Health care is expensive. It is especially costly to
deliver the kind of services that children with complex
medical problems need. But that's why we're here. Our
pediatric specialists are here to provide lifesaving
measures to the tiniest of infants. We're here to help
the child who's running out of time and needs an organ
transplant or another operation, to give hope to the
teenager with a rare disease that threatens his or her
reaching adulthood, and to offer the routine care that
improves young lives.
It takes significant dollars to continue the leading
edge research that assures new and improved discoveries
for treating childhood diseases.
It also is costly to provide the quality education for
our medical students and training for our pediatric
residents so that future children in North Carolina will
continue to receive the best of care.
Our charge at UNC is to provide the highest level of
care possible, cutting edge research and premiere
educational programs. We take our mandate very
seriously. The challenge is to find a way that allows us
to be innovative and develop programs beyond what's
afforded from patients' limited insurance. Simply
stated, much of the additional personnel and equipment
we need to develop new and innovative programs are not
available from the financial resources we have. Instead,
we have to seek funds from donors, grants, and other
efforts, which is where you come in and why your
contributions count. |
